Your Voice: Are you ready to pay the price for misguided green policies?

Dear Editor,

According to the Canadian Press, Georgia Power Co. just started up a nuclear-powered electrical generation plant outside of Atlanta.

It joins the one that they completed last summer.

These are the first two nuclear plants built in the US in decades.

Each unit is rated to provide power to 500,000 houses and businesses. Original plans called for their completion in 2017.

The total cost to build two was $35 billion US versus an initial budget of $14 billion US.

Sounds like the Site C dam, doesn't it?

$35 billion spread across 1,000,000 homes equals $35,000 per home.

Just for construction, not counting ongoing operating costs.

I wonder what that's going to do to power bills in Georgia? Any guesses? Google says there are about 900,000 detached homes in BC.

Have you got $35,000 laying around to spend on new electricity generation if/when Justin Trudeau gets his wish to eliminate the use of fossil fuels?

Because I sure don't

I am a big believer in the role of nuclear in our future.

However, these numbers show that anything our governments do in the pursuit of their misguided green policies is very likely going to take WAY longer and cost WAY more than any politician will admit.

So while Justin Trudeau and Pierre Poilievre waste their time, and ours, fighting about the carbon tax, reality is going to bite us all right in the "you know where" if they don't start facing facts.

Real facts, that is, about what drives the earth's climate and real facts about the impact of their wishes and dreams on our country's future.
