Meet Melissa Benson. Melissa is from Prince George but has been in Kamloops since she was six-years-old. She is an empathetic woman who loves to bowl and hang out with her Great Dane.
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
From Prince George. Moved to Kamloops when I was 6. I've been here 26 years now.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My 14-month-old Great Dane, Louie. We go everywhere together! He's the most lovable pup, and so easy going.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Probably Bailey's Pub. The girls are awesome, the atmosphere is great, and they have awesome wings!
Describe yourself in one word.
Empathetic.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
On an Alaskan Cruise! Its always been on my bucket list! In fact, I'm just waiting for my passport, and then we're headed on in September!
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
I always loved bowling. I wish we had more than one alley in town now!
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
How many times can you walk into a screen door before it's not embarrassing anymore? I'm at about 6, and it doesn't ever get any better!
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Sitting on my dad's lap 'driving' his '79 ford pickup home from the corner store. It's something that has always stuck with me, and one of my earliest memories I have. Where do you volunteer or give back to the community?
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I wish people wouldn't always think so negatively. If our first thoughts to new situations were more positive, I think the world would be a completely different place.
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
The walking dyke through Westsyde Centennial Park. It's always so peaceful.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The people. Everywhere you look, there's always a friendly face.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Alaskan Cruise.
Rescue another dog.
Travel across Canada.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Kamloops Wings.
Why did you get into/start this business?
We went for wings almost every week for about a year, then we decided to create a page on facebook and document the places we go, and how we felt about our overall experience.
What is the goal of your business?
To document our wing experiences, and get the names of a few local pubs out there!
What do you always find yourself saying?
"You do You."

Change is the only constant in life.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I love to cook, so someone who could show me a few new things in the kitchen!
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because supporting local is what keeps our town thriving!
