Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?

I am from Kamloops, born and raised.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My mom. She's easily my best friend. I've never encountered such a strong, selfless, and hilarious woman. I'm truly so lucky.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Jardine's Domaine. I love the brands that they carry, and the set-up of the store. I really enjoy walking downtown, and always end up there.

Describe yourself in one word.
Loving.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
New York City. I have only been once, and I cannot explain the feeling I had when I was there. There are few moments I have actually been speechless, but the top of the Empire State Building at night took my breath away, & always so much to see and do.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
K Spin Indoor Cycling Studio, easily. That place and the group there has changed my life in the most amazing way.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Oh no, there are so many moments. I took a hard fall on a first date, I fall down the stairs almost weekly. I'm quite accident prone, I've accepted.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

I have been fortunate enough to have had a few special moments, but my last appointment at BCCH telling me I was cancer free has made me so thankful for each and every day. My Uncle who passed away always encouraged my artsy side, and left me a really special letter that I look at daily. My entire family is supportive, but his words really touched me. Since then, I have pushed myself to pursue what I really love because life is fragile, and I never want to regret not trying to reach my goals... as cliché as that sounds.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Ahhhh, I have so many! I was a Make-A-Wish kid and was sent to Disneyworld with some of my family, and that triggered my Disney Obsession. Since then, I live and breathe for Disney. I played Mrs. Potts during Belle's reading of Beauty and the Beast, and now I think of my mom and I as Mrs. Potts and Chip. I'm 22 but have never grown out of the Disney - probably never will.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I've volunteered at Ridgeview Lodge during the holiday season, doing crafts and sing-alongs. I recently volunteered at the City of Kamloops Senior Light's Tour which was one of the most heartwarming experiences. I also work with a Princess event company in town called "Wishing Well Parties and Events" and we do many volunteer events throughout Kamloops, and Sun Peaks.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Well, the first thing I would change is to cure cancer, simply for how much it has impacted myself and my family's lives, and millions of others. Another thing I would love to see progress is more acceptance. I love and embrace diversity, which is just one reason as to why I adore the beauty community. It is progressing in such an amazing way, where everyone and anyone can play and experiment with makeup products and different looks to feel a little bit more confident or beautiful.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
My beauty room is my sanctuary. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I typically hide in my room and play with new looks and products. It is so soothing to me...

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would love for Kamloops to embrace the Arts a little more. I have been in acting, and musical theatre for most of my life, and would love to see more progression and spaces for that.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
It has a little bit of everything.

What are 3 things on your bucket list
?
Oh, there are so many things... I wanna spend New Year's Eve in NYC and watch the ball drop in Times Square. Eventually, I would love to start my own brand, work with foundations and donate some of the proceeds to cancer research, especially women and children fighting. Makeup can change someone's mood, and I love seeing a difference in my clients when they leave feeling beautiful and inspired. I also want to go to Barcelona. Or Greece. Or Paris. Or all three.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook: Beauty by Paige Elizabeth.
Twitter: @PaigeCaswell
I am most active on my Instagram: @paaigeelizabethhh
Youtube: Paige Caswell

What is the name of your business/organization?
Beauty by Paige Elizabeth.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I have always wanted to start my own business, and my Instagram account started gaining followers and interest, so I took the leap and did it. I have always loved makeup more than I can explain, and thought "why not?"

What is the goal of your business?
I aim to do more than just makeup; I love to connect with my clients. All I do is accentuate their natural beauty, and see the transformation from when they first sit down in the chair, to when they leave. I love it.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I am so hard on myself. I always have been, and it's something I work on every day. I always feel like I'm not doing enough, but practicing self-love has helped so much.

What do you always find yourself saying?
I always tell myself I'm gonna stop shopping.. or not buy makeup... it's a work in progress.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.

Appreciate the people around you. Family, friends, communities, etc. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by so much love and support from my family and friends - thankful every day.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Ellen DeGeneres. My car is named after her.. I love that woman so much. She is so brave and so sweet. Every day she ends her show saying "Be kind to one another" and I appreciate that so much. I sleep better knowing that I make a conscious effort to be kind, whether that be complimenting someone, volunteering, or holding the door for someone. She is so hilarious, and her comedy is always honest, and never malicious. She's a rare soul, and I will always admire her.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because why not? We should support one another, as well as putting money into the Kamloops economy.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My first PR box from Sephora Canada was a huge step. However, I am also very proud of the scholarships that I have received. Beating cancer is pretty cool too.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Again, my family. My mom, dad, aunts, uncles, everyone has supported my makeup dreams so much. My mom bought my first camera and mic, my dad bought my first ring light, and everyone else has helped in more ways than I can ever repay. I am a lucky girl.

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
Samantha Gibson, owner of K Spin Indoor Cycling. Sam and her instructors welcomed me with open arms, love, and motivation which is exactly what I needed. Also, thank you Brit Groves for PUSHING me to try K Spin.719363
