In Focus | Tracy Munson

Meet Tracy, she moved to Kamloops when she was seven and has lived in Kamloops since. Tracy is an author, entrepreneur and advocate for all the mamas out there living busy lives. Her book and support group invites moms everywhere to come together in unity and to support each other.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Oh, this is a tough one. I love spending time with my husband and kids. They keep me grounded, motivated and inspired.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
The Art We Are. I love how you can shop and have amazing food at the same time. My absolute favourite thing is their blissful brownie, (vegan and gluten-free) it's so good!

Describe yourself in one word.
Loving

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Scotland, I have always wanted to go there. I love history, old architecture and exploring.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
I love dirt biking and Kamloops is surrounded by a lot of places to explore.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I was wearing a well-loved pair of pants at work that split right up the backside when I knelt down to pick something up. Thankfully, I had a sweater to wrap myself in.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
The most inspiring thing that has happened to me would have to be when I was depressed, overwhelmed and at my lowest; people around me still believed in me and supported me.
This event was a pivotal moment for me, my career and family. It is why I am where I am today, assisting busy moms to go from overwhelmed to overjoyed.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My favourite childhood memory was when my family would go on camping dirt biking trips together. I was really young but can remember a lot of good times with my parents and brothers all together.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
One of my agreements with myself is, every time I get asked to donate to a charity at a check out/teller, I say yes. They just have to ask. My kids and I volunteer at our local trash bash at Sun Peaks Resort and do our best to clean up garbage along our paths.
I absolutely love supporting local businesses and shops around Kamloops. We have so much goodness here, why go anywhere else?

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Equality. Some countries are better off than others, financially and in gender equality. I would absolutely love to see gender equality across the globe. For every child around the world, no matter their gender, financial situation or social status, to be able to go to school.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Anywhere in the mountains. Kamloops is surrounded, there are so many good spots. Maybe I am biased, but I love the valley of Heffley Creek and Sun Peaks.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would love to see recycling bins beside garbage bins around Kamloops, not just for cans, but for all recyclables.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The welcoming and friendly people.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

  1. Be a Philanthropist on a bigger scale.
  2. Have a foundation to support moms who are restarting their lives.
  3. Travel to Europe to backpack and explore with my family.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I twirl my hair when I am nervous, deep in thought or anxious.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Through FaceBook, my website, or Instagram.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Insight Natural Healing / The Overwhelmed Mom

Why did you get into/start this business?
I hit my rock bottom being an overwhelmed mom of 4 and I wanted to create something that was real, raw and safe for moms to come and get support. Whether that is in person or through the FB support group.

What is the goal of your business?
For all moms to think of themselves as extraordinary.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
My biggest struggle used to be trusting myself. Trusting what I wanted rather than what others thought I should want. This took me years to overcome, but gosh does it feel good letting that one go and truly trusting myself.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Make decisions with your heart. If it feels good, go for it. If there is hesitation, it's not right now. Never make a decision when you're indecisive.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Trust yourself, do your best, and don't worry about what other people think or their expectations. Live the life that makes you happy.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Oh, this is a tough one... I have always loved Oprah, ever since I was a little girl, she would be an incredible woman to meet never mind spend a whole day with!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
As an entrepreneur, I know how important it is to have people support me and come to me. It keeps our city alive. It supports local families. It provides jobs for the people of Kamloops. Shopping locally supports our city on such a massive scale.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Completing and publishing my book, "The Busy Mom's Greatest Companion"
