I was born in Prince George but have lived in Kamloops for 30yrs.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I have to name 2 people my wife DelRae and our daughter Sarah. I could not ask to have better people to go through the journey of life with. They both are inspirational and courageous women that make me work towards being a better person every day.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Kamloops has so many fabulous stores that I could not possibly name just one!
Describe yourself in one word.
Determined.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I would love to see Vietnam, parts of Europe, visit more of Mexico. But I would also be just as happy to go to a cabin at a local lake and soak in the nature.
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
I am digging gardening these days *see what I did there* But I also really enjoy hiking with my family. Kamloops has some amazing backcountry trails that are so easy to get to and enjoy.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Usually, I embarrass myself with cracking myself up at my own jokes and realizing I am the only one laughing…
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I am inspired daily by the success and most importantly the happiness of the people around me.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I can think of two. My brother and I going to the go Kart track in Kamloops many times! Playing stick hockey in our yard for hours often well into the dark. The biggest challenge was dodging the rocks and getting the ball before it went down our steep driveway.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
As a business and a family, we try to do many things to help make Kamloops a better place. We work with JDRF, RIH foundation, Kamloops Food Bank, Chris Rose Center for Autism, Kamloops Humane Society, MS walk, Kamloops SPCA as well as the Kamloops Art Council. We have also helped with sandbagging during flooding, helped with pet food and supplies during forest fires, and donated many things to help with different fundraisers around town.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
If I could change one thing. I think it would be to have everyone approach things with love. That isn’t easy because that would mean releasing all judgment. As a society, it is easier to judge first ask questions later. Its something I challenge myself with every day.
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Home. There is something about our home being a sanctuary for me.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Kamloops is a great community that really pulls through to help those who live here. I am proud to live here.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Ride a horse on the beach.
Spend Christmas somewhere exotic.
Have another Frenchie.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I imagine that one thing some might be surprised about me is that I am moderately shy and have a ton of social anxiety. I do get through it by putting on my best smile and "fake it til I make it." I am thankful to DelRae who unfortunately gets some of them.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Petland.
Why did you get into/start this business?
Well, Petland started out at a part-time job for me. I have been part of the Petland family for 23 years. I try and tell people that I was 10 when I started but no one believes me! When Judy and Kevin, founders of Petland Kamloops location wanted to retire.
What is the goal of your business?
Our Mission statement is to “match the right guest to the right pet and meet the needs of both, for our guests who already have pets we are dedicated to enhancing the knowledge and enjoyment of the human-animal bond” ™®. We live that every day.
What do you always find yourself saying?
My team would say "find a solution, not an excuse," also I say "awesome" a lot.
Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Take a risk on yourself. You are so worth it. I know it isn’t original but it is a valuable lesson to learn as soon as possible.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I think it would be amazing to spend time with Michelle Obama, or Oprah Winfrey, or Arlene Dickinson. All strong women with some amazing stories to learn from.
