Health Canada has issued a national recall for a bike rack sold at Costco due to a risk of the rack detaching or allowing a bike to fall during transport.
The recall is for two models of the Kilimanjaro E-Bike Rack Hitch Mounted Platform Carrier.
The first model (#910572CWT) was sold between March and August 2024 while the second (#910495CCF) was sold between March and September 2023.
According to the recall, the rack is susceptible to cracks which may worsen overtime due to repeated loading and unloading.
“Over time, this weakening may lead to structural failures, compromising the integrity of the rack and increasing the risk of component detachment during transport, posing an injury hazard,” the recall says.
“Additionally, the E-Bike Rack failure can allow a bicycle to detach and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.”
As of Sept. 20, 2024, the company has received 16 reports of incidents but no reported injuries.
About 6,660 units of the product were sold exclusively at Costco stores in Canada.
Anyone who purchased the bike rack should immediately stop using the product and return them to Costco for a refund.
