Monashee Music Festival not returning to the Shuswap this summer

Despite having a successful event last year, Monashee Music Festival will not be returning this summer.

The decision was made due to financial loss that the festival incurred, but founder Andy Bowie says he remains optimistic about the festival's future and is determined to bring it back to the Shuswap when the time is right.

“Since the festival's original scheduled date in 2020 and postponing due to the pandemic, we've experienced some changes in our personal and business lives,” Bowie explains.

“However, we've taken valuable lessons from our experiences and are committed to making necessary improvements to ensure a successful event in the future.”

The festival team is seeking a like-minded business partner who shares a passion for the Shuswap, live music, entertainment and hospitality.

“We know that with the right partner(s) on board, we can return and amplify the Monashee Music Festival,” Bowie says.

“We've even reached out to Ryan Reynolds and Chad Kroeger to see if they're interested in partnering up.”

Monashee Music Festival is also exploring other possible locations within the Shuswap, as a suitable spot with camping facilities is critical for it to return.

“Last year, we encountered a setback when many of the potential camping sites were not approved by the Agricultural Land Commission,” Bowie explains.

“We need a site that is not located in the Agricultural Land Reserve and is easily accessible without having to cross a busy highway.”

Bowie says the musical festival has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, bands, previous Sicamous mayor Terry Rysz, citizens and the RCMP.

“We are very thankful for Twin Anchors Houseboats, Red’s Rentals and many other local businesses and volunteers that helped with the festival last year,” he adds.

The inaugural two-day event in July 2022 featured an all-Canadian lineup with 16 bands and 2 DJs, and nearly $10,000 was raised for Mamas for Mamas, a non-profit organization that supports mothers and caregivers facing poverty-related struggles.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported us last year and look forward to working with new partners who share our vision for the future of the festival,” Bowie says.
