He might have only been a Maple Leaf for a little over 20 days, but defense man Eric Brewer is set to be honoured by the team.
Prior to the puck drop against the Minnesota Wild Monday, March 23, the Leafs will recognize Brewer as being the 99th defense man in league history to play 1000 games, accomplished Saturday, March 21 against the Senators in Ottawa.
Brewer's family will be taking part in the pre-game ceremony where he will be presented with a silver stick; as is custom for players who hit the milestone.

"I should probably use it the way I've been handling the puck," joked Brewer. "We're just excited. It's a pretty special night and I'm super excited. The Leafs have been amazing about it, especially having been here so short. They've done a million things for us and we couldn't thank them enough."
Brewer was born in Vernon but raised in Ashcroft, where he began playing hockey in the Ashcroft Minor Hockey program. When he was fourteen, his family moved to Kamloops. Brewer began with the WHL in 1994 where he played three seasons with the Prince George Cougars. Before his final season with the team he represented Canada at the World Junior Championships in Finland. He was drafted fifth overall by the New York Islanders in June 1997. Brewer currently plays for the Maple Leafs, his sixth NHL team.
