A B.C. fisherman caught a massive, rare albino sturgeon and has the photos to brag about it and also prove it.
Chilliwack fisherman Chad Helmer caught the strangely coloured fish on Saturday afternoon in the Fraser River. The once in a lifetime catch took Helmer two and a half hours to reel in, making him the first person to catch an albino sturgeon of this size. Helmer, who released the fish once he finished photographing his catch, said it was “pretty sweet” to catch a fish of this size. It has not been confirmed that it was indeed an albino fish, but Helmer suspects it was.
“That fish has been around longer than any of us will live,” said Helmer on social media.
The fish is an estimated 11 feet in size and had a girth of around five feet. The large sturgeon disappeared as fast as it could and it’s anyone’s guess if we’ll ever see the massive beast ever again.
