Body of man who disappeared in Cultus Lake finally found after 4 weeks

After nearly four weeks, the family and friends of a man presumed to have drowned in Cultus Lake finally have some closure.

Police say a body was pulled from the lake by the BC RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team around midday Tuesday.

It was confirmed to have been the body of the man who disappeared under the surface at the popular recreational lake near Chilliwack on July 19.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to this man’s family and friends,” said Sgt. Krista Vrolyk. “We are so sorry for your loss.”

According to the RCMP, this was the fourth drowning death in the area in a span of four weeks.

“These deaths are devastating to family and friends but also take its toll on emergency personnel,” said an RCMP release.

Police are urging people to do their part to ensure water safety.

That includes wearing a lifejacket, not entering the water if you don’t know how to swim and using the buddy system.

The RCMP added: “Never swim alone and do not enter the water if you are impaired by alcohol or drugs.”
