A stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway about 20 kilometres west of Golden has undergone significant safety improvements.
The 2.5-km stretch of road between the Golden Weigh Scale and Forde Station Road has been expanded from two lanes to four.
“I am thrilled to see the completion of these crucial improvements to the Trans-Canada Highway in British Columbia,” said François-Philippe Champagne, federal minister of infrastructure.
“This work will reduce the risk of collisions and ensure residents, tourists and businesses can travel safely and efficiently through the region for years to come.”
BC’s minister of transportation, Claire Trevena, says this is just one of many four-laning projects set to take place between Kamloops and the Alberta border over the next three years.
The estimated cost of this particular project was $19.4 million, a coast shared between the federal and provincial governments.
The federal government’s contribution came through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component of the New Building Canada Fund.
