(UPDATE: Jan. 4 @ 11 a.m.) - After a day-and-a-half of turmoil, the Trans-Canada Highway is fully open to traffic.
It was previously closed near Field before being opened to single-lane alternating traffic for a few hours this morning.
(UDPATE: Jan. 4 @ 6:20 a.m.) - The Trans-Canada Highway is closed again.
The major highway was closed for almost the entire day on Thursday due to dangerous avalanche conditions, but it reopened at 10 p.m.
However, a vehicle incident has closed the road once again near Field, just west of the border between British Columbia and Alberta.

The incident happened shortly after 3 a.m., meaning the road was only open for around five hours before shutting down again.
An assessment remains in progress and there's no estimated time for the road to reopen, says DriveBC.

(UPDATE: Jan. 3 @ 11:40 a.m.) - The Trans-Canada Highway remains closed between Revelstoke and Golden due to a high risk of avalanche.
Severe storms throughout the region brought more than 40 centimetres of snow with it and more is expected throughout the day.
Crews are currently working on avalanche control at four different locations along the stretch of highway.
As a result, it will remain closed until 8 p.m.
Hwy 3 will also shut down for avalanche control near the Kootenay Pass between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
There will be a detour available from Nelson to Creston via Hwy 3A and the Kootenay Lake Ferry, but there's no detour for the Hwy 1 closure.
A number of travel advisories remain in effect for southern interior highways, including Hwy 1, Hwy 3 and Hwy 5.
(Original story: 7:20 a.m.) - A multi-vehicle incident has shut down Hwy 1.

Webcam images show traffic already heavily backed up at near the accident.
They also show a number of semis have gathered near Albert Canyon, about 40 kilometres west of Rogers Pass, in anticipation of a lengthy delay.
There’s no detour currently available and DriveBC’s next update will come at 11 a.m.
