With just two days to go until the Vancouver Canucks begin training camp, one important member of the big league roster will not be in attendance.
The club released a statement from forward Dakota Joshua today, revealing that the 28-year-old was diagnosed with testicular cancer over the summer.

Fortunately, doctors were able to successfully remove the tumour, but Joshua says he will not be ready for the start of training camp as he continues to heal after surgery.
“The last several weeks have been extremely challenging and I’ve been fortunate to have the support of my family, friends, teammates and doctors,” Joshua’s statement said.
The Michigan native, who signed a four-year extension worth $13 million in June, said he plans on returning to play “as soon as possible this season” and is working hard every day to rejoin his teammates.
Joshua also took the opportunity to urge other men to stay on top of their health.
“Although it was very difficult to face the reality of this specific type of cancer, getting checked by a doctor quickly was the best approach and I encourage men to get checked regularly for testicular cancer,” the statement noted.
Joshua asked for privacy concerning his situation and promised the Canucks would provide updates as appropriate.
